This rare set of four Wedgwood crescent plates is decorated in the Floral pattern, with a vivid basket of blue and yellow flowers. Each plate has been hand-coloured, giving subtle variations in the way the floral motifs are painted while keeping the same palette — a charming reminder of Wedgwood’s early 20th-century craftsmanship.

Crescent plates, sometimes called bone dishes, were originally designed to sit neatly beside a dinner plate for fish or meat bones, but today they make elegant side plates for appetisers, desserts, or even sushi.

Produced at Wedgwood’s historic Etruria works and dated by the impressed code “3KW” to 1916, these plates carry more than a century of history. The basket of flowers motif reflects a decorative tradition seen on English ceramics since the 18th century, giving this set both historical depth and timeless appeal. Their unusual crescent shape, hand-painted decoration, and documented provenance make this set especially appealing to collectors.

Condition

The plates display fine crazing and some typical age-related staining, both of which enhance their antique charm. A few minor rim marks are also present, which are typical for pieces of this age and do not affect their appeal. No cracks or structural damage.
