Product Description

A wonderfully characterful pair of early Victorian Staffordshire Dalmatian dogs dating to around the 1850s. Seated proudly on deep cobalt blue oval bases, each dog has the unmistakable look of true antique Staffordshire works: expressive faces with red-painted mouths, and a joyful mix of large and small hand-applied spots that make each figure both charming and full of personality.

Their slim bodies, gentle expressions and neatly curled tails capture the elegant silhouette of 19th-century Staffordshire dog figures, yet the distinctive Dalmatian decoration makes this pair especially eye-catching. Whether placed on a mantelpiece, a sideboard or styled with books and candlesticks, they bring an unmistakably Victorian presence that blends beautifully into stylish interiors today.

Condition

A lovely antique pair preserved in very good condition for their age. The paintwork retains a well-balanced patina that suits the period beautifully.

Small glaze variations can be seen on the rims of the bases. These look to be from the original firing process, a trait sometimes found in Victorian Staffordshire pottery.

There is a very fine hairline around the front right ankle of the left dog, which looks surface-level (within the glaze) and does not affect the way the pair displays.
