Pair of Victorian Staffordshire Poodles with Confetti Decoration

Product Description

A charming pair of Victorian Staffordshire poodles, featuring beautifully textured confetti coats, expressive hand-painted faces and delicate gilt collars.

Believed to date from the Victorian period, these delightful poodles are a lovely example of traditional Staffordshire pottery craftsmanship. Their distinctive coats are decorated using the granulated slip technique, also known as confetti or shredded-clay decoration, creating a wonderfully textured finish that contrasts beautifully with their smooth white bodies.

Each poodle has its own charming expression, with hand-painted yellow eyes, black muzzles and delicate gilt collars. The left-hand poodle has a little quirk of its own: the confetti decoration on its tail appears to have come away during manufacture, leaving tiny impressions beneath the glaze. It's one of those delightful irregularities that gives handmade Staffordshire pottery its individuality and charm.

With their soft white colouring, charming expressions and beautiful textured details, these small Staffordshire poodles bring a lovely touch of English country charm to the home. Their timeless appeal makes them a delightful addition to a wide range of interiors.

The small, irregular vent holes on their backs are characteristic of traditional Staffordshire pottery-making methods.
