Pair of Vintage Lord Nelson Pottery Colman’s Mustard Advertising Dishes

A charming pair of vintage Colman’s Mustard advertising dishes, made in England by Lord Nelson Pottery. Each glazed ceramic dish has a scalloped rectangular shape with an ornate golden-yellow and black border.

The nostalgic illustration depicts a child reaching into a kitchen cupboard, accompanied by the playful slogan, “Stands highest in my estimation.”

Display them on a kitchen shelf or drinks trolley, use them as trinket dishes or teaspoon rests, style them as part of a mid-century table setting, or add them to a gallery wall.

Lord Nelson Pottery was associated with Elijah Cotton’s Nelson Pottery in Hanley, Staffordshire. The pottery works opened in 1885 and produced a wide variety of English earthenware until its closure in 1981. Colman’s, meanwhile, was founded near Norwich in 1814 and remains one of Britain’s best-known mustard brands.

The Lord Nelson Pottery backstamp is printed on the underside. These dishes probably date from the 1970s, although no date code is visible.

Condition

Both dishes are in good vintage condition. Fine age-related crazing gives the glaze an authentic vintage character. There are no chips, cracks or repairs.
