Susie Cooper left A. E. Gray & Co. Ltd in 1929 to start her own pottery business, eventually moving to the Wood & Sons Ltd Crown Works in Burslem in 1931. She operated there until 1959, producing renowned earthenware known for its artistic flair. The Crown Works, established in 1832 and later taken over by Wood & Sons, became the main supplier of white ware for Susie Cooper Pottery, supporting her pioneering designs.
