Product Description
"Harriet, Girl with a Cat" is one of the most beloved prints by John Strevens, the London-born artist who exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Paris Salon throughout his career. His paintings of children, women, and flowers became hugely popular in the 1960s, and the prints produced from his original oils found their way into homes across Britain. Today, they are rediscovered with fresh appreciation as part of the growing love for mid-century and grandmillennial interiors, where vintage art with character and warmth brings a room together in a way that modern reproductions simply cannot.
This is a compact version in its original cream frame. The print is mounted directly onto board, a format widely used by print publishers in the 1960s and a hallmark of the era. Without glass, there are no distracting reflections or glare, and the print has the look and feel of an original painting on the wall rather than a conventional framed print. The printed title label "HARRIET Designed by Strev. Ref. Print/T1411" is still intact on the reverse.
The soft, painterly colour palette of pinks, yellows, and greens has a warmth that makes it easy to style alongside other vintage pieces on a shelf, or as part of a gallery wall mixing different eras and frames. A natural fit for cottagecore, grandmillennial, and vintage-styled interiors.
John Strevens (1902–1990) was largely self-taught and worked in a rich, expressive style often compared to John Singer Sargent. His work is held in the collection of the British Council, and a blue plaque marks his home in Loughton, Essex.
