Product Description:

These Vintage French Sarreguemines Faience Oyster Plates are a stunning testament to the timeless artistry of French Majolica. With their rich dark brown glaze and elegant dark green spray paint accents, these plates capture the essence of mid-century design. Each plate features six slots for oysters or other shellfish and a central slot for a dipping sauce, making them as practical as they are beautiful. Crafted by the esteemed Sarreguemines pottery, known for its fine craftsmanship and decorative flair, these plates are a must-have for any collector or host looking to elevate their table setting.

Historical Note:

Founded in 1790, Sarreguemines pottery has a rich heritage of producing fine earthenware. Despite early challenges during the French Revolution, the company flourished under the guidance of Paul Utzschneider and later Alexandre de Geiger, who introduced innovative decorating techniques and expanded the company’s reach. The factory became famous for its ceramic tiles, even supplying tiles for the Paris Metro. Today, Sarreguemines pieces are highly sought after by collectors and admired worldwide for their vibrant and colourful designs.
