Vintage National Trust Kingston Lacy Cat Plate by Royal Park China | c.1990s

Anyone who shares their home with cats will recognise this arrangement. One has settled comfortably into the best chair, while the other has found a perch just behind. Judging by their wonderfully serious expressions, neither has any intention of moving.

This charming blue and white plate was produced exclusively for the National Trust by Royal Park China. It reproduces one of the cat designs from an extraordinary Victorian Minton service preserved at Kingston Lacy in Dorset.

Made between 1873 and 1891, the original service features a different scene of cats on each piece. Royal Park China later recreated a selection of these much-loved designs for the National Trust, allowing a small part of the Kingston Lacy collection to find its way into other homes.

The finely drawn cobalt-blue illustration captures all the humour and personality of the original Victorian design. With much of the white plate left undecorated, the image has a clean, almost contemporary appearance that makes it easy to mix with both old and modern pieces.

At approximately 25.5 cm across, it has plenty of presence as a decorative plate. It would look wonderful displayed on a wall or shelf, either on its own or as part of a collection of blue and white china, pictures and other favourite finds.

A delightful piece for anyone who appreciates cats, British country-house history and ceramics with a story behind them.
