Product Description
A rare and utterly charming pair of vintage Henriot Quimper piggy banks, shaped as pigs and hand-decorated with figures of a Breton farmer and his wife in traditional dress. Made in Brittany between 1922 and 1968, these collectible figures were part of a lesser-seen design series and are no longer in production.
Each piece is richly detailed with soft floral decoration in classic Quimper colours 'pinks, yellows and greens', set against a rounded pig form with curled tails and a playful silhouette. Whether styled in a French country kitchen, a curated shelf display or a collector’s cabinet, they bring warmth, character, and a distinct sense of heritage to any space.
Unlike the more commonly seen mould 393 piggy banks, this pair belongs to a rarer line produced during Henriot’s mid-century era, featuring figural decoration rather than simple floral patterns. Pieces like these are highly sought-after, and are increasingly hard to come by in the UK vintage market.
Founded in the late 17th century and officially established under the Henriot name in the 19th century, Henriot Quimper is one of France’s most celebrated faience potteries. Known for its distinctive hand-painted ceramics and strong Breton heritage, Henriot’s work has long been prized by collectors of French decorative arts.
These piggy banks were traditionally made without a coin retrieval opening — a charming, old-world detail that adds to their symbolic quality. To find both the farmer and his wife together, in such beautifully preserved condition, is particularly rare.

Condition
In very good vintage condition overall. One pig has a small chip on the nose, and there are a few tiny unglazed spots on the toes that appear to be original from firing. The colours remain bright and the decoration is beautifully preserved. A rare matched pair that displays wonderfully.
