Product Description:

This pair of Staffordshire Cats by William Kent carries all the charm of classic mid-20th century Staffordshire pottery, while showing a character entirely their own. Their glossy finish gives them a brighter presence, and the warm red-brown patches and golden bows stand out beautifully against the creamy glaze.

We previously offered a very similar pair, almost identical in form but with a softer, more matt finish. That pair sold quickly, and it is a pleasure to be able to present another set. These cats, however, have their own personality. Their smile-like expressions give them an endearing, whimsical quality that makes you smile back every time you see them.

The surface is enriched with the fine crazing typical of William Kent’s work, a technique deliberately introduced to evoke the patina of age and to lend the glaze greater depth and character. Each base bears the backstamp “Staffordshire Ware Kent Made in England” with the Staffordshire Knot, confirming their authenticity and linking them to William Kent’s long heritage. Established in 1894, the company became known for its Staffordshire Ware cats, dogs and flat-back ornaments, continuing production until its closure in 1962.

This individuality is what makes vintage and antique pieces so compelling. Even when produced from the same mould, no two are ever quite alike. These William Kent cats, with their glossy glaze, delicate crazing and cheerful faces, will bring warmth and individuality to any interior. Displayed on a mantelpiece, console table or bookshelf, they become a joyful focal point that cannot be replicated by modern décor.
