Product Description

This pair of William Kent Staffordshire Cats has a bright, uplifting presence, with their glossy glaze, rich red patches and warm gold bows. Their expressive faces give them a cheerful look that works beautifully in both classic and contemporary interiors.

We have previously offered two pairs made from the same mould, both of which found new homes quickly. While this pair shares the familiar William Kent form, the handpainting makes them distinctly individual. The right cat has a gentle, almost smiling expression, while the left has a slightly more thoughtful look. These subtle differences reflect the work of different decorators and add to their charm.

The fine crazing across the glaze is characteristic of William Kent’s technique. It was intentionally created to give the surface greater depth and a softly aged character, enhancing the warmth of the creamy glaze. Each base is clearly stamped “Staffordshire Ware Kent Made in England” with the Staffordshire Knot, linking them to William Kent’s long history. Established in 1894, the company became known for expressive animal figures, including cats, dogs and flat-back ornaments, and continued production until its closure in 1962.

With their glossy finish, handpainted markings and individually expressive faces, this pair brings a uniquely joyful character to any interior. Displayed on a mantelpiece, console or bookshelf, they make a charming focal point that feels both classic and full of personality.
